Malcolm Nelson is an Austin native, tenor, educator, and conductor whose distinguished career spans more than 45 years. A graduate of Travis High School and The University of Texas at Austin, he has spent nearly three decades educating students throughout Central Texas while directing community choirs, musical theater productions, and church music programs. Under his leadership, choirs have performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, as well as across Europe and the former Soviet Union. From shaping young minds in the classroom to inspiring performers and audiences on stages around the world, Malcolm’s musical journey reflects a deep-seated passion for excellence, creativity, community, and the transformative power of music.
     I have had the privilege of working alongside Malcolm Nelson andÂ
witnessing firsthand the incredible work ethic, dedication, and heart he
brings to everything he does. Malcolm is the kind of person who gives 100% not because
he is asked to, but because he genuinely cares. His passion for music runs deep, and you can see it in the way he shows up, supports others, and gives his time and energy to help create something meaningful. What I admire most about Malcolm is his integrity. He is someone you can trust completely—someone who stands by his word, treats people with respect, and does the right thing even when no one is watching. He has a way of making the people around him feel valued and encouraged, and his presence makes our community better. Malcolm doesn’t just contribute his talent; he contributes his heart.   I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him. Â
